May Day Riots

Every year since 1987, riots have taken place in the district of Kreuzberg on May 1st. Revolutionary May Day often ends with flying cobblestones and burning cars – how did this tradition develop?

Featuring:
– the neighborhood uprising of 1987
– 25 years of revolutionary demonstrations (1988-2012)
– the students’ movement of 1968
– the stories of three occupied houses
– the wall and what it meant for West Berliners
Mediaspree and struggles against gentrification

How much?
a donation of 5 or 10 euros for the 2.5-hour tour
(revenue goes to left-wing projects)

German Revolution

How Berlin workers toppled the Kaiser and ended the war in 1918.

Featuring:
– the workers’ movement and the First World War
– Karl Liebknecht and the resistance against the war
– the uprising in Berlin that toppled the Kaiser
– Rosa Luxemburg and the foundation of the Communist Party
– the January fighting and the murder of the communists

a donation of 10 euros for the 2.5-hour tour

(Anti)Colonialism

A look at Berlin‘s forgotten colonial past and the struggles to remember it.

Featuring:
– the beginning of the Brandenburg slave trade
– the Berlin Conference of 1885 and the division of Africa
– the history of Berlin’s “African quarter”
– the Charité hospital and its collection of skulls
– today’s struggles to change colonial street names

How much?
a donation of 15 euros for the 4-hour tour
